The Town was surrounded by a circular Fort, which includes the historic citadel of Uperkot Fort. A part of the Fort was demolished before few years for the purpose of expansion of the town. It is revealed that it contained Palaces, Swimming pools, Theatres; Arenas .It was some where in 7th Century that it was deserted and a thick Jungle grew over the palaces & Temples. It was discovered in 10th century by a wood cutter. The Buddhist caves are also situated in Old Fort, and it is believed that the Buddhist caves belong to 1st century.

It is the only place in the World, except Africa, where the King of Jungle. the Majestic Lion can be witnessed in the natural habitat.
